About Me

Alyssa Sidwell

I’m Alyssa Sidwell, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in New York City. I offer virtual individual therapy, EMDR, and clinical supervision to clients across New York State, specializing in trauma, anxiety, substance use, and relationship patterns.

My approach draws from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Psychodynamic, always tailored to what works best for you. Using curiosity and compassion, I focus on helping clients understand their inner world, build the capacity to sit with difficult emotions, and use what comes up in session to create real, lasting change.

After working as a substance use counselor in a residential treatment center, I saw firsthand how powerful it is to have a nonjudgmental, supportive presence and how that relationship can open the door to self-compassion and healing. That experience deepened my understanding of the intersection between trauma and addiction and solidified my passion for helping others understand how their past shapes their present.

Outside of session, you’ll find me playing the French horn, at a Broadway show, or with my cat and a good book.
